An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. It serves two main functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing. IP addresses enable devices to find and communicate with each other on a network, facilitating the transfer of data over the internet. There are two types of IP addresses: IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) and IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6). IPv4 addresses are in the form of four sets of numbers separated by periods, while IPv6 addresses are more complex and were introduced to address the increasing demand for IP addresses.
